Cruise Review: Canary Islands Cruise

By Samuel Allan

Tourists visit and enjoy the Canary Islands all year round; some of these people choose to stay with one specific island, but a cruise might allow you to see all seven of these islands.

The Canary Islands are situation in the Atlantic Ocean, right off the coast of western Africa and are lauded for their sun drenched beaches and beautiful temperatures.

Tanning is not the only reason to visit these hot islands, especially with the Spanish culture that has been instilled in them. Islands like Fuerteventura, Tenerife, and Gran Canaria offer a lot to vacationers who want to try the area's food and discover its history, as well as stunningly beautiful natural scenery like caves and volcanoes.

You will find the capital of the Canary Islands, Las Palmas, situated on the island of Gran Caneria. The capital and her island are a perfect choice to visit since you can do just about everything there: eat sumptuous food, do some fantastic shopping, enjoy wonderful nightlife and relax on beautiful beaches.

A Canary Islands cruise will also probably stop on Tenerife at Santa Cruz, the perfect place for people wanting to experience the area sporting facilities, clubs, and centers for health and beauty.

Other popular destinations in the Canaries include Lanzarote, which attracts young vacationers because of the top bars and clubs, and Fuereventura, generally considered to be the best stopping spot for people wanting a low-key excursion.

Of course, when you take a Canaries cruise you'll probably see all the main stops on the various islands, so you can experience the Canary Islands' best attractions in only a few weeks or days.

Depending on who you choose to give your money, there will be different packages which also include stops in other countries that are like the Canary Islands; these include Spain and maybe even Morocco. - 24585

Wine And Balloon Festival Of Temecula

By Ian Kleine

The Temecula Valley Chamber of Commerce started and pushed through these lists of festivities way back when it started during 1983. The main man behind the idea of the balloon festival was a certain Mr. Walt Darren, a commercial airline pilot who had a side hobby of being a professional hot air balloonist. He was the first to have started the idea of having hot air balloons race through the countryside as part of an effort to jump start the ecological tourism in the area.

Vicky Taylor, then president of the Commerce had asked Evelyn Harker, event organizer to raise funds for this idea (of which she might have thought of it to be a pretty good idea in itself.) The event organizer had a splendid idea that the whole thing could pull off much more successfully if the other attractions that could be found in the local area were pulled in as a culmination of all the good things that can be found inside Temecula Valley. Things like wines, cheeses, the entertainment and basically, the cuisine of Temecula itself.

The idea was passed on, and more of the people around, as well as several establishments and organizations pitched their support in to try and bolster the event upwards. Funds came in steadily from different areas of the valley, not to mention these were limited to not only finance, but also through volunteer work and free advertising of the event.

The first event launched successfully, spring of 1984. With the small town of only 9000, this event was a big step for the commercialization and the growth of the local community. At least half of the town's population had arrived (increasing the head count of the area by up to 150% during that time).

Thirty five balloons that carried the dreams and aspirations of the locals sped through the lonely skies painted orange by the setting sun. They flew like the birds wishing for home, and like birds that had found their true nature and calling. This was the mystique of the festival that drew more people together. - 24585

Hawaiian Party Theme Ideas

By CD Jackson

The luau or Hawaiian party theme is best held on the beach during a nice sunny day. If you live nowhere near a beach, you could also hold it in your back yard or at a local park. You should have a surf shack or beach bar as your centre piece.

The luau party should typically be about eating lovely food, singing and dancing.

Dressing up is essential and the ladies will look fantastic in grass skirts, floral arm bands, a lei necklace, flowers in their hair and even a coconut bra as an added optional.

Guys get to dress in their favorite Hawaiian print shirt. Get some matching shorts, sandals, sunglasses and a flowery necklace and you're all set. I'm afraid that the ladies have a much better costume for this theme though.

For fun and for your setting, I would consider some or all of the following ideas; hula hoops (have a contest to see who can hula the longest), beach balls and net, limbo stick (great for when everybody is drunk) and take care to scatter sea shells and coconuts around your venue for effect.

For food, I would create a tropical fruit centre piece. Nicely cut up melon, banana, peach, grapes, cherries, mangos and oranges and place them all in separate bowls. Allow your guests to skewer them with steel skewers or tooth picks.

The drinks are what the Hawaiian party theme is really about. Consider hiring out a cocktail maker to whip up Hawaiian Heartbreakers or Castaways. Otherwise you can provide instructions for your guests to make their own...great fun! Don't forget the little umbrellas to top it off.

Finally, for the music! Ska normally suits this party theme very well though it is not to everybodys taste. You could go for the usual selection of present hits. Though Hawaii does have a proud music scene that perhaps you should investigate. - 24585

Tips On Hiking Shoes From Selection To Lacing

By Patricia Clark

Hiking footwear is probably the most important apparel that a hiker will need. Without the proper footwear, a person might be exposed to the risk of injury and getting tired faster.

There are hiking shoes tips to consider when buying. First tip is to decide on the most suitable shoe type. There are lots of types available, and some are considering climbing shoes and boots for hiking. Climbing shoes are very light and provides maximum grip while climbing steep terrains and is also usable for rock climbing. Boots are heavy-duty and sturdy, used in harsh terrains but the flaw is its weight.

Next is the shoe type. Trail running and climbing shoes can be ideal for occasional hikers. Trail running shoes were designed for off-road terrain while maintaining ventilation and comfort, and climbing shoes offers outstanding grip.

When buying their shoes, hikers often do it in the morning or weekends, for them to have more time in choosing. But based from experts, the best time to buy hiking shoes is after a day of work or at the end of shopping time. This is because human feet tend to swell after a tiring day, which is a good way to know how comfortable the shoe is when the feet swell while hiking.

Another tip is proper lacing technique for hiking shoes. Theoretically, two trillion techniques can be formed for a shoe with six pairs of eyelets, and some of those have features that are suitable for hiking. One of those techniques is the sawtooth lacing.

Hike lacing distributes pressure evenly on the entire shoe, and keeps the tie in one side. To have a hike lacing, shoelace should be run straight from the inside of the bottom eyelets so that the ends will be on the outside. One end is to be run outside to the next higher hole, and insert on its pair across the other side. The other end will be vertically run on the outside to the next unoccupied eyelet, and run across its pair on the other side. Both ends will continue the process, until the ends reach the topmost eyelet and are on the same side. This lacing is suitable for even-numbered eyelet pairs, but workarounds can be done for odd number of pairs.

Since the lacing was done in an inside-out manner, this technique can be messy to look at. As a variation, hikers can start on the outside of the eyelet, so that the vertical run of the lace is hidden inside the shoe. Other techniques can be done but as a rule of thumb, lacing should distribute pressure and keep the shoe firm.

Last tip is locking the lace of hiking shoes. Lock lacing is promoted by shoe stores because it prevents slips and shoe twisting because of stress. One locking technique is known as the high lock, where the shoe is laced to the top part of the shoe except for the last eyelet pair. Then, the ends are run straight to the unoccupied eyelet, and its run should form a vertical line on the outside. It will be crossed over so that it will be tucked under the run on the other side. Though it keeps the lace firm and reduces slip, this lock can be difficult to loosen. - 24585
